Common EV Chargers and Public Charging Systems in India

India is rapidly advancing towards a sustainable transportation future with the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). To support this transition, a robust network of EV chargers and public charging systems has been established across the country. Here's an overview of the common EV chargers and public charging systems available in India:

Common EV Chargers

1. Level 1 Chargers (AC): These chargers operate at 240V and provide a power output of up to 3.5 kW. They are typically used for home charging and are compatible with small electric vehicles like two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

2. Level 2 Chargers (AC): Operating at 380-400V, these chargers offer a power output of up to 22 kW. They are suitable for both home and public charging and can charge mid-sized electric vehicles.

3. Level 3 Chargers (DC): These high-power chargers operate at 200-1000V and provide power outputs ranging from 22 kW to 400 kW. They are primarily used for fast charging of electric cars and are compatible with Type 2, CHAdeMO, CCS1, and CCS2 connectors.

4. Bharat DC-001 and Bharat AC-001: These are standardized chargers developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to ensure interoperability and minimize trade barriers for electric vehicles and their components. ·

Voltage: Operates at a voltage range of 48V to 72V.

·         Power Output: Provides a power output of up to 15 kW.

·         Compatibility: Suitable for four-wheelers, three-wheelers, and two-wheelers

·         Connector Type: Uses a single connector gun (CG) for charging.

·         Standards: Complies with the IS-17017-25 standard for communication between the EV and the charging station.

The Bharat DC-001 charger is part of the broader initiative to develop a robust and interoperable EV charging infrastructure in India, ensuring safe, reliable, and accessible charging options for electric vehicle users.
